LET THEM KNOW:
The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records

'LET THEM KNOW: The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records' recounts the past 25 years in the lives of Shawn and Mark Stern, who formed the influential L.A. punk band YOUTH BRIGADE and who co-founded BYO Records, one of the longest-running independent punk labels that still exists to this day. The film includes rare footage of the L.A. punk scene and interviews with members of 7 SECONDS, ADOLESCENTS, ALKALINE TRIO, THE BOUNCING SOULS, THE BRIEFS, MINOR THREAT, NOFX, SWINGIN UTTERS and, of course, YOUTH BRIGADE, along with other people who bore witness to the evolution of Youth Brigade, BYO, and L.A. punk.
It is expected to be released as part of a BYO Records 25th Anniversary box set.
A special PREMIERE SCREENING of the film appeared at this year's Punk Rock Bowling Tournament in Las Vegas that was held from Jan. 17th thru Jan. 20th at Sam's Town Hotel and Casino before having its OFFICIAL WORLD PREMIERE at this year's San Francisco Independent Film Festival.
The Stern Brothers and the filmmakers will be in the audience as the lights go down at THE ROXIE CINEMA (3117 16th St.) for two showings on FEBRUARY 13th and 16th at 7:15pm!

After the screening on the 16th, YOUTH BRIGADE will be playing an after party (open to the public!) at THEE PARKSIDE (1600 17th St.) with FILTHY THIEVING BASTARDS and NOTHINGTON.

THE GITS MOVIE

Due for theatrical release around the US as of 3rd July 2008 and with a DVD scheduled for release on 8th July 2008, 'The Gits Movie' is part musical history and part murder mystery.
It is said to be laden with rare performance footage dating back to the band's formative Antioch College days of 1986 and continuing through to its move, three years later, to Seattle.
It was here that THE GITS distinguished itself with a brand of rich, soulful Punk while simultaneously becoming an integral and influential - although criminally unsung - cog in the scene that exploded in Seattle in the wake of Grunge counterparts like NIRVANA and MUDHONEY.
In 1992, the band released its debut album, 'Frenching The Bully' with work on its follow-up, 'Enter: The Conquering Chicken' beginning in mid-1993.
Things changed beyond comprehension when, on the evening of 7th July 1993, the band's charismatic vocalist, Mia Zapata, was raped and murdered while walking home from a friend's house late at night.
Quoting the film's website, the film will, "examine the band's career from the perspectives of fans, friends, and the surviving members themselves. It will also explore how members and friends of the group were irrevocably altered by Mia Zapata's life and death. The efforts made by this same community in search of Mia's killer, and its response to the recent arrest of a suspect in the crime, will also be detailed. Finally, THE GITS musical legacy will be examined."
